This is a £14 million mixed use development by Leicester City Council (in association with Blueprint) which spreads across a whole city block The design by architects Marsh and Grochowski includes a new digital media centre, a creative workplace and live/work accommodation. There are proposals for a hotel being developed on the remaining part of the site.
ACT Consultant Services have worked as auditorium planners for the three screens in the new digital media facility which will also include a digital gallery, screen lounge, café/bar, offices and education spaces. It is planned that the DMC will be open to the public in the Autumn of 2009.
The DMC will be a creative hub for new technology in the areas of film, entertainment, art, enterprise, research and education. It will build on the success of Phoenix Arts as well as being supported by De Montfort University's strong research and academic provision in the creative industries.
It will house 37 new creative businesses, continuing the success of Leicester Creative Business Depot and seven two-storey studio-office units.
The sustainable building will also be an exciting place to live, creating a unique community environment with 63 high quality architect designed homes. All of the homes will be individually designed, ensuring no home will be the same as the next.
Through De Montfort University’s involvement, the project will benefit from the latest research in media and related technologies
